Must-Try Restaurants: Nahm Thai Bistro

Restaurant Series: Featuring our favorite eateries in Surrey City Centre

Have you had a chance to try Nahm Thai Bistro in Surrey City Centre yet? It’s hands down one of our favorite restaurants in the area.

When looking for a casual restaurant with great food, there are plenty of options in Surrey City Centre, but few that pay attention to décor and ambiance like the Nahm. When we walked into Nahm Thai Bistro for the first time, we almost felt like we were walking into a restaurant in Yaletown.

Between the sleek almost all-white furniture and walls, the intricate chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and the bold red artwork; the restaurant is stunning. The person who designed the space did an amazing job balancing modern elements with more traditional Thai decor. Adding to the fabulous ambiance, the staff members are very friendly and helpful. Although the restaurant is a little bit pricier than other Thai places in the area, it is well worth it. They even have Thai beer, Singha, for some extra authenticity.

Apart from the excellent atmosphere and service, all of the food arrives at your table artfully presented and tastes excellent. We highly recommend the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, the Chicken Pad King, and the Vegetable Red Curry. The Chicken Pad King is a stir-fry dish which comes with fresh ginger and the Red Curry is delicious but we’ll warn you – it’s spicy.

We recommend this restaurant to everyone who lives in Surrey or anybody who works in the area and is looking for a venue for a business lunch. It was such a treat to be able to go to a restaurant with such polish right in the heart of Surrey City Centre, and we hope more restaurants like this open in the area soon. It’s restaurants like The Nahm that will help Surrey City Centre transition into the next vibrant urban hub.

The Nahm Thai Bistro is located at 13650 102 Avenue, just off of King George Blvd.

They’re open Monday – Friday 11:00am – 10:00pm and Saturday – Sunday 12:00pm – 10:00pm

The official tree lighting ceremony will be led by Dianne Watts and Linda Hepner, the new mayor of Surrey, and will commence at 6:15 pm. The tree stands 55’ feet tall and will light up the Civic Plaza for the duration of the holidays.

Winter Farmers’ Market in Surrey City Centre

Have you had a chance to check out the Winter Farmers’ Market in Surrey City Centre yet? The Surrey Urban Farmers’ Market began back in 2006 and has grown significantly over the years. This year organizers launched their first winter market, which began Wednesday, 29 November. The market will return every other Wednesday from 12 pm – 4 pm in the City Hall atrium and plaza.

The farmers’ market now offers Surrey residents the opportunity to support local agriculture producers and small scale artisans all year round. This is great because anyone who prefers locally grown produce and food items knows that these can be difficult to find outside of the summer months.

In addition to local produce, visitors will find locally produced meat and dairy products, an array of baked goods and ethnic foods, homemade jams and jellies, and honey. There are also homemade soaps, make-up and perfumes, as well as scarves and jewelry.

The farmers’ market can also be a great place to enjoy your lunch break. There are vendors such as the Breadmobile selling fresh bread and baked goods, others selling coffee, light snacks and sandwiches, as well as food trucks parked outside the plaza, such as Big Red’s Poutine.

For those who forget to bring cash, “market bucks” will be available to purchase using a debit card and guests can use these at vendors and food trucks as cash. The “bucks” never expire, so people can bring them back for subsequent visits.

The Surrey winter farmers market offers such a variety of items that it’s great for the whole family. Stop by this Wednesday to experience it for yourself!
