Award-winning Barista Sammy Piccolo Brings Artisan Coffee to Surrey

Those who know Artigiano and 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters know Sammy Piccolo, the owner and operator of five Prado coffee shops in Metro Vancouver.

As a four-time Canadian Barista Champion, first ever winner of World Latte Art Championship, winner at the Coffee Fest Latte Art Championship, and four-time top-three placement for Canada at the World Barista Championships, Sammy understands how to get the best out of the café experience.

When asked about why he decided to open another Prado at 3 Civic Plaza Sammy said, “It’s going to be a great café. It’s going to be a meeting place for people. I really feel the energy of this place.”

Prado Café is an awesome addition to the grand lobby and will be one of the many social anchors for the community — for residents, guests and locals alike. Prado will support Civic Hotel with continental breakfast and other menu items. “We’re going to make everything in-house,” adds Sammy. “We’re going to do our own home-style baking, we’re going to do brunch, sandwiches, and the best coffee.”

Be sure to follow Prado Café on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for special promotions, hours of operation and updates on the new store at 3 Civic Plaza.

An Autograph Collection Hotel in Surrey City Centre

The Autograph Collection is Marriott International’s curator of independent and extraordinary hotels and we’re very excited to have one coming to Surrey City Centre. Designed by Cotter Architects and ZGF Architects LLP, the Civic Hotel is full of innovative details that will definitely make it stand out from the competition.

The hotel restaurant’s cuisine will be a fusion of locally-grown ingredients and South Asian influences with an emphasis on sustainability. Organic waste from the kitchen will even be sent back to the farms to be used as compost, completing the food circle.

The hotel features numerous event spaces, but the largest, the Grand Ballroom, will accommodate approximately 275 people for seated events and up to 500 for receptions. We expect these spaces to be very attractive for event organizers planning events or business conventions in Surrey City Centre.

There will be three options for guests, the Superior King with a king-sized bed and combinable into a single suite, the Double Queen with two queen-sized beds and a Standard King with one king-sized bed. All of the rooms blend modern design with innovative features, such as the layouts, which distinguish them from other Autograph hotel suites.

With 37,000-40,000 guests per year expected at Civic Hotel, it is estimated that more than $3.6 million in ancillary revenue will be injected into local businesses and services each year. This is based on the average international visitor to Canada in 2011 spending $99.60 per day (Canadian Tourism Commission).

The Civic Hotel will be 21 storeys with 144 guest rooms, a convention space, fitness centre, lobby-based café, fine dining restaurant and rooftop patio for special events.

Construction of the project began May 2014 and is expected to be complete late 2016. To view our Autograph Collection hotel suites, visit our 3 Civic Plaza Presentation Centre at 10277 King George Boulevard, Surrey, BC. Our Presentation Centre is open Monday – Thursday 1 – 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday 12 – 5 pm, and closed Fridays. You may also book a private appointment by reaching us at 604 763-5156.

With over $3 billion in recent and future investments in development, Surrey City Centre has grown to attract major players within the business community and residents looking for homes in a new downtown core. Surrey continues to attract new residents who share a common vision for the future of Downtown Surrey, and want to be a part of its growth as it develops into the next major business hub and city centre.

Recent and projected additions to the education, business and hospitality sectors have further propelled Surrey’s economic strength, creating 1,370 full-time jobs just within 3 Civic Plaza. With more than 70% sold, the demand for a luxury product like 3 Civic Plaza is evident.  Furthermore with the insertion of an Autograph Collection hotel, part of the Marriott International global portfolio, Surrey is expected to see continued growth in this market.

The Autograph Collection is an evolving ensemble of independent boutique hotels hand selected for their bold originality, rich character and uncommon details. Officially named ‘Civic Hotel at 3 Civic Plaza, Autograph Collection®’, the hotel will boast 144 rooms, a lobby based café, fine dining, fitness and pool facilities, a large convention space, and catering services.

Each hotel is fully integrated into Marriott International systems which include the award-winning Marriott Rewards membership program, and MARSHA, the first and strongest globally integrated reservation system in the lodging industry.

Room rates are expected to be approximately $140 to $150 per night and we expect 37,000 to 40,000 guests per year. With more convention space coming available and large companies such as Coast Capital moving their head offices to the area, we predict there will be a significant increase in demand for business travellers wanting to stay in Surrey City Centre.

Look Who’s Bought – Phil Heng

Buyer Profile Series

There’s no better compliment than when a Realtor partner decides to purchase one of our homes for themselves. Phil Heng, who has directed many of his clients towards 3 Civic Plaza, was so impressed with Surrey City Centre’s next landmark address that he has now invested in the project himself.

There are a lot of new projects under construction at the moment in surrounding area and we view it as a huge vote of confidence that Phil has decided to purchase at 3 Civic Plaza. One of the things he found most impressive about the development was that people could have great access to downtown Vancouver using the SkyTrain, while living in a luxury home that was literally half the price of homes in Vancouver.

3 Civic Plaza’s positioning as a premium product, along with the luxury hotel and office spaces, makes this development stand out from other developments currently on the market. Features such as the geo-exchange district energy system and high end luxury finishings, make these homes hard to compare to other homes on the market.

Although he feels that the area is becoming a very “exciting place to live”, he doesn’t immediately plan to live in the home, but rent it out to attract a different kind of tenant than other developments in the area. He expects to easily find people that will fit in with the neighbourhood of people who have already purchased in the building.

Phil thinks 3 Civic Plaza is “one of a kind”. Although there are plenty of other developments around, the main draw to 3 Civic Plaza for Phil is to be at the exact centre of a new downtown core, with shops and restaurants within walking distance and the plaza and access to transit right outside his doorstep.

Recently a number of new renderings of 3 Civic Plaza were featured on BuzzBuzz Homes!

Some of the more compelling renderings feature the tower’s base and what the structure will look like from the street view looking up. It’s interesting to see renderings from this vantage point, as opposed to aerial views of the towers, because this is the perspective that people will experience daily walking through the plaza once the development is complete.

Other images feature the building’s fantastic amenities such as the yoga studio, concierge service and fitness centre. The article also highlights the private balconies that are part of almost all of the suites, and incredible views of Metro Vancouver that residents will be able to enjoy.

In the News: 3 Civic Plaza featured in The Province

Recently 3 Civic Plaza was featured in an article in The Province, in which the author, Mary Frances Hill, highlights the luxurious interiors of the residences in this unique development. The impeccable interiors done by Sharron van der Meulen and Mark Haidle, who are the lead designers at ZGF Architects, exemplify a mix of ‘modern eclectic’ and hotel luxury.

“The design and colour options are varied to appeal to a broad range of potential buyers from many cultures”, said Haidle. The suites also offer many high-end features which resemble those in world class premium hotels that you wouldn’t normally see in residential suites, according to Sean Hodgins, President of Century Group.

Definitely a development worth checking out!
