Imagine the Holidays Here

It’s easy to see why 3 Civic Plaza is at the centre of it all when you’ve had an opportunity to experience the City of Surrey’s 6th annual Tree Lighting Festival held on Saturday, November 21st on the Civic Plaza.

Mayor Linda Hepner was on hand to light the 55 foot Christmas Tree on the plaza. The event also featured dozens of performers — from Beatles tribute bands to children’s theatre, and classical ballet performances to seasonal carollers. In collaboration with ITC, who installed long lines of gold LED lights along their crane arms, 3 Civic Plaza is an ongoing Community Sponsor for the event and looks forward to continuing the spirit of holiday lights on the plaza in the future.

Holland Park: A Garden Oasis in the Middle of Surrey City Centre

For apartment dwellers with limited outdoor space, Holland Park could definitely be considered one of the neatest attributes of living in Surrey City Centre. Although we love the urban atmosphere of King George Blvd, with the SkyTrain overhead, plentiful restaurants, and people bustling every-which-way, it’s hard to believe that there’s a beautifully serene park only two blocks away.

Holland Park is a great place to spend time with family and friends and the numerous paths through the park make it perfect for jogging or taking the dog for a walk. When you’re at Holland Park it feels like a green oasis, no matter what you’re doing, and it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of Surrey’s downtown core.

This is one of Surrey’s newest and most urban parks, with benches and garden lined paths throughout, making it very accessible and usable for the public. In total it is only 10 acres in size, but feels much larger. The park is also home to a number of public art pieces such as 2 towering metal floral structures, which adds some visual interest to the space (in case the trees and real flowers weren’t enough for you).

In the future the city plans to expand the ways that people use the park and there is talk of building a water park, tennis courts and volley ball courts. Even now you will often see workout classes and other groups congregating in the park, but it will be great to increase the usability of the space with more facilities.

Holland Park is also used for numerous community events such as Movies under the Stars and the Fusion Festival. It was recently  also the venue for a Mumford and Sons concert  attended by 20,000 people!

We look forward to having more large-scale events held in Surrey, and Holland park seems like the natural place for such events considering its expansive size. It’s easy access to transit also makes it easily accessible by the rest of the lower mainland such as Vancouver, New West and Burnaby, which are all served by SkyTrain.

Winter Farmers’ Market in Surrey City Centre

Have you had a chance to check out the Winter Farmers’ Market in Surrey City Centre yet? The Surrey Urban Farmers’ Market began back in 2006 and has grown significantly over the years. This year organizers launched their first winter market, which began Wednesday, 29 November. The market will return every other Wednesday from 12 pm – 4 pm in the City Hall atrium and plaza.

The farmers’ market now offers Surrey residents the opportunity to support local agriculture producers and small scale artisans all year round. This is great because anyone who prefers locally grown produce and food items knows that these can be difficult to find outside of the summer months.

In addition to local produce, visitors will find locally produced meat and dairy products, an array of baked goods and ethnic foods, homemade jams and jellies, and honey. There are also homemade soaps, make-up and perfumes, as well as scarves and jewelry.

The farmers’ market can also be a great place to enjoy your lunch break. There are vendors such as the Breadmobile selling fresh bread and baked goods, others selling coffee, light snacks and sandwiches, as well as food trucks parked outside the plaza, such as Big Red’s Poutine.

For those who forget to bring cash, “market bucks” will be available to purchase using a debit card and guests can use these at vendors and food trucks as cash. The “bucks” never expire, so people can bring them back for subsequent visits.

The Surrey winter farmers market offers such a variety of items that it’s great for the whole family. Stop by this Wednesday to experience it for yourself!

3 Civic Plaza Unveils Autograph Collection hotel suites

Century Group hosted two events last week to unveil our Autograph Collection hotel suites, which will be coming soon to Surrey City Centre. The first was an exclusive event, by invitation only, where Century Group, SCDC and Marriott International welcomed media and buyers to a celebratory unveiling of the luxury hotel suites for the Civic Hotel at 3 Civic Plaza, Autograph Collection®.

In attendance were Sean Hodgins, President of Century Group, Anita Huberman, CEO Surrey Board of Trade and Joann Pfeifer, Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown GM, who were joined by staff members from Cotter Architects, SCDC and of course Marriott International. We also had an excellent media turnout with representatives from Glacier Media Group, Black Press, Sing Tao, World Journal, and Business in Vancouver.

Sean Hodgins, opened the ceremony by expressing his appreciation for Mayor Dianne Watts’ vision of Surrey City Centre and the partnerships that helped 3 Civic Plaza and the Civic Hotel become a reality. Then Joann spoke on Marriott International’s impression of the area and the potential that she saw in Surrey City Centre as a metropolitan hub.

The second event was our official launch and for that we invited the public to view our luxury hotel suites.

The public event was very successful, with so many groups touring the suites, at times our sales team could barely keep up! We acquired lots of good leads throughout the day and the overall feedback about suites was very positive. One gentleman even joked that he loved the hotel suites so much, if we added a kitchen, he’d live in one!

Guests were invited to enter a prize draw upon being greeted at the event, and we drew 7 winners throughout the day. Our winners were Laurie Makela, Min Ma, Eric Hsieh, Kristina Locsin, Ruby Choi, Grace Nel, and Jie Chen. Congratulations to all of our winners, each of whom won gift certificates ranging $50 – $500 for businesses in the Surrey City Centre area.

Overall both events to unveil our Civic Hotel luxury suites went extremely well, and we couldn’t be happier with all of the positive feedback we’ve received from guests.

If you didn’t make it to our hotel suite unveiling, we invite you to stop by our 3 Civic Plaza Presentation Centre any time to view the suites yourself. Our Presentation Centre is located at 10277 King Geourge Boulevard and we’re open Monday – Thursday 1:00 p, – 6:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and are closed Fridays.

We look forward to seeing you!
